If you know and love the Southern California area, the perfect volunteer opportunity awaits you. Join the California Welcome Center - Buena Park Volunteer Staff and be a catalyst for great visitor experiences. The Welcome Center is open seven days a week to assist visitors with their travel needs in California. The Center offers free maps, free city travel guides, discounted attraction brochures and tickets, help with hotel reservations, dining, and entertainment information.
The Welcome Center corps of volunteers has grown into a family network of new friendships and close bonds with the staff and one another. The Welcome Center is a very pleasant and fun place in which to serve. Volunteers have the opportunity to meet and interact with people from all walks of life from all over the world.
Volunteers are needed year-round; the Welcome Center is open 7 days a week, closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
Basic skills needed for a Welcome Center Volunteer include:
Operating basic office equipment
Ability to conduct research using the internet
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to use a high degree of tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with diverse groups and individuals
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and the general public.

Learn to make traditional Japanese kites with Japanese kite master, Mikio Toki! Edo (Tokyo) style kite master, Mikio Toki, will be coming to The Source on October 15 from 1-4PM. to teach hands-on kite -making workshops, in which students will learn how to make kites of bamboo and washi (Japanese paper).
Tickets are $21 and will cover the kite material fees. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door but space is limited.
**Children under the age of 12 are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by an adult. Due to limited space, up to 1 child per paid adult may participate.

The Dr. John D. Cooper Archaeological and Paleontological Center will celebrate International Archaeology Day and National Fossil Day (which are only four days apart) on October 14, 2017, with a FREE educational family event, Prehistoric OC. The Prehistoric OC festival presents Orange County’s rich heritage of natural history, prehistoric animals and plants, and Native American culture to the community.
Prehistoric OC is fun for both young and old, with a number of activities including archaeological and paleontological demonstrations and exhibits, a Junior Scientist Camp featuring educational crafts and hands-on activities. The event will feature volcano demonstrations, Native American storytelling and a special visit from Rocky the T Rex!
